Background-

Senator Eteng Williams has handed ₦100,000 each to about 160 women in the Cross River Central senatorial district, giving them a business support pack under his empowerment program.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) said the Federal College of Agriculture, Akure, worked with Aqil Transnational Limited to run the exercise. It took place in the Ikom and Ugep local government areas at the same time.

The women studied modern business practices, hands-on skills and small-scale business management. Each of them left with a certificate of participation.

Williams, who sits in the National Assembly for Cross River Central, sent his Liaison Officer, Ikoi Uket, to speak for him. Uket said the senator sees the program as a way to turn representation into real gains for his constituents.

He said Williams balances his lawmaking work with efforts to build human capital and boost local incomes, and that the senator has delivered the dividends of democracy on many fronts over three years. He added that Williams believes spending on people builds prosperity and creates jobs across the district.

Williams urged the women to spend the money wisely and asked them to keep backing President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He said patience, persistence and hard work will turn the reforms into big rewards.

Several beneficiaries thanked the senator and called the gift timely and impactful. They asked other elected leaders to copy the example and put more money into people and small businesses.
