Background-

South Africa-based Aspen Pharmacare has agreed to sell the commercialization rights and intellectual property of its European women’s health business to pharmaceutical and medical device company Ennogen for $220 million.

Ennogen will take over the supply and manufacturing rights for Ovestin, an estriol-based menopause hormone therapy that treats menopause-related symptoms. The deal also includes about $4.4 million in existing inventory.

The acquisition will widen Ennogen’s footprint in Europe and strengthen its portfolio of topical products. The company gains an established women’s health brand that already serves patients across the region.

Aspen will keep its European manufacturing partnerships. It will also continue to provide facilitation services for Ovestin for at least five years, which supports a smooth handover of the product to its new owner.

The agreement lets Aspen sharpen its focus on its remaining operations while Ennogen builds on a growing area of healthcare. Demand for menopause care has drawn more attention from drugmakers and health providers in recent years. Neither company has shared a closing date in the information released so far.
