Background

Thomas & Hutton engineers Lisa Muzekari and Hillary Aton have been named 2026 SC Women in Business Honorees for their leadership and work on infrastructure projects across South Carolina.

Lisa Muzekari, PE, Vice President of Infrastructure at Thomas & Hutton, and Hillary Aton, PE, Principal and Project Manager based in the firm’s Charleston office, are among this year’s honorees selected by Integrated Media Publishing, the organiser behind the annual awards programme that spotlights women making a difference across South Carolina.

Muzekari brings more than 30 years of engineering experience to her role, leading multidisciplinary teams on complex infrastructure and environmental projects throughout the Southeast.

Her work includes the Volvo Cars USA manufacturing facility project, a major economic development milestone for the region. She also holds the distinction of being the first female shareholder in Thomas & Hutton’s history.

Aton has spent more than a decade delivering stormwater and flood mitigation projects across South Carolina.

She currently serves as President of the APWA Lowcountry Branch and has earned multiple Project of the Year awards for her work. Colleagues describe her approach as collaborative and deeply rooted in the needs of the communities her projects serve.

Thomas & Hutton has been in operation since 1946, running as a privately held, employee-owned firm that delivers engineering, planning and surveying services across six southeastern states, including Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama and Florida.

The firm employs engineers, surveyors, planners, landscape architects and GIS specialists.

The company congratulated both honorees, saying the recognition reflects the leadership and expertise they bring to their teams and the communities they work in every day.
