Background

AMPP will be among many other organizations marking International Women in Engineering Day (INWED) during the last week of June in appreciation of women’s achievements in various fields of engineering and to inspire more young women to join this noble course.

International Women in Engineering Day (INWED) is an international awareness campaign established by the Women’s Engineering Society. It is designed to bring together educational institutions, industry, and communities in recognizing the contribution of women in engineering. This year’s topic is “Engineering Intelligence.” This topic is based on the intelligence, creativity, and problem-solving skills of female engineers.

“Engineer your future now”, says Kimberly-Joy Harris, AMPP Board Chair. In her opinion, innovative solutions will always be found when diverse views are considered in solving any engineering problem. In addition, she adds that through INWED, we can appreciate the growing role of women engineers in engineering and inspire future generations.

“Visibility, mentorship, and community are key ingredients to inspire women engineers”, says Paola Andrea Postigo Rojas, AMPP Ambassador. She noted that when women share their journeys, they help others picture themselves in technical and leadership roles.

AMPP will launch its #WomenOfAMPP campaign to commemorate the event, showcasing personal narratives, professional insights, and career reflections from women throughout its global network. The organisation also welcomes nominations recognising women making a difference in materials protection and engineering performance.

Laura Cardenas, Vice Chair of the AMPP Board, said the organisation remains committed to building leadership opportunities and meaningful connections through programmes including Women of AMPP, EMERG, and the AMPP Ambassador Programme.
