Background

Michigan Women Forward has expanded its loan programme in Flint through a new partnership. The goal is to help local entrepreneurs get easier access to funding. It supports women-led businesses.

The initiative is supported by the Ruth Mott Foundation, which has given a $500,000 investment along with a $450,000 grant to strengthen the programme in the region. This funding will help set up a local base for Michigan Women Forward in Flint and support lending work in the area.

As part of the expansion, Michigan Women Forward is working with Flint-based 100K Ideas to assist small business owners directly. A full-time lending officer will be based at the 100K Ideas office in downtown Flint to guide entrepreneurs and help them access loans.

The programme will offer small business loans ranging from $2,500 to $50,000. It targets entrepreneurs who often struggle to get bank loans due to low credit scores, lack of collateral, or limited business history.

Partners said the programme will help reduce funding gaps and support local business growth. They also said that combining financial help with training will help entrepreneurs manage their businesses better and prepare for future opportunities.

The initiative also offers training sessions through the Business Basics Cohort to help participants improve their business knowledge and financial management skills.
