Background
The American Container Company has been certified as a Women’s Business Enterprise (WBE) by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), thus increasing its chances of getting business deals with various companies and organizations. The certification ensures the Tampa-based company is owned, operated and controlled by at least 51% women.
WBEC Florida is a regional certification partner of WBENC that awarded the recognition. The certification process involved a detailed inspection of the company and a site inspection to ensure that the company is owned, managed and run in accordance with the company’s business structure.
Dr. Angelia Payne is the CEO and President of the company. The certification “shows the commitment she and her team have made to meeting customer requirements for three decades and how it has provided additional ways for her business to engage with expanding programmes on supplier diversity”, she said. The recognition also recognizes the increasing contribution of women entrepreneurs to the economy, she added.
American Container, established in 1998, rents, purchases and customizes shipping containers for companies throughout Florida and other markets. It designs concession stands, clubhouses, press boxes, food pantries, and other custom-designed shipping container buildings, among its projects.
WBENC said that by connecting women-owned businesses to large corporations, government, and other certified businesses through networking, training and business development programmes, their certification is helpful to such small businesses. The organisation also advocates supplier diversity by urging companies to incorporate women-owned businesses in their supply chains.
The certification will enable the company to propel further growth through enhanced access to new partnerships and contracts, as well as to its entry into the shipping container industry.
