Background
Dr. Karen De Asis, chief brand strategist and founding board member of MKS Marketing Consulting, will receive 2025 ASEAN Women Entrepreneurs Award, to be held on November 21 at Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra, Cambodia. She is being honored for her efforts in advancing Filipino family businesses that create lasting economic and employment opportunities.
De Asis, also known as Catherine, believes family-owned companies can drive sustainable national growth. “When Filipino family businesses succeed, they expand and create stable jobs, improving living standards for many families,” she said.
Her firm, MKS Marketing Consulting, has played a key role in helping Filipino brands compete globally through strategic marketing and brand development. The company’s notable successes include helping a retail brand grow from 47 to 350 branches, a home appliances company expand nationwide, and a drugstore brand rise as a strong challenger in its category.
De Asis emphasized that supporting Filipino entrepreneurs generates a stronger social impact than short-term charity.
With a doctorate in Education Leadership and Corporate Social Responsibility from De La Salle University, she also holds an MBA from Ateneo and has completed executive programs at Stanford and Oxford.
She won the 2003 Agora Award for Marketing Education, the 2008 Outstanding Faculty Award, and the 2018 Philippines Women Leadership Excellence Award. De Asis continues to inspire women entrepreneurs to link success with sustainability and purpose.
