Background
Julie Dalton, founder of The Adamson hospitality group in St Andrews, has been named one of Scotland’s Top 10 Women to Watch in Business by the Business Women Scotland Awards 2025.
Dalton received an award at the Glasgow ceremony last Friday for leading in the hospitality industry for over 30 years, supporting her community, and helping women entrepreneurs succeed. This marks her second consecutive recognition by the organisation, following her Entrepreneur of the Year win in 2024.
Dalton launched The Adamson in 2012 after gaining extensive experience in hospitality across London, New York, and Los Angeles. The restaurant quickly won a place as a St Andrews favourite, earning 2 AA Rosettes and a spot on Scotland the Best’s list of Top 120 Restaurants for its refined steak, seafood, and cocktails.
In 2017, she expanded her business by opening Hatch, a lively brunch and casual dining spot known for using local ingredients and creating a welcoming atmosphere. In 2023, she opened The Physician, a concept-driven cocktail bar that became a finalist in the Scottish Thistle Awards and won New Bar of the Year at the Scottish Bar and Pub Awards.
Beyond business, Dalton is celebrated for mentoring women in hospitality, offering training programmes that help young professionals step into leadership roles.
“I’m truly honoured to be acknowledged once more alongside such remarkable women,” Dalton said. “We’ve always aimed to foster environments where both people and ideas can flourish.”
Julie Dalton also serves as a trustee of The Hamish McHamish Foundation and director of BID St Andrews, reflecting her deep commitment to both community and industry growth.
