Background :
International engineering and design consultancy AtkinsRéalis has reported strong progress in improving gender diversity across its operations in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), with women now representing 23% of its regional workforce.
The company said the figure rose from 17% in 2020, showing a 39% increase over the past five years. This growth shows steady progress in a sector where the number of women is still relatively low.
According to the company, female hiring has increased significantly, rising from 14% in 2020 to 25% today. Promotion rates for women have also improved, climbing from 16% to 24%. These changes have strengthened opportunities for women to move into leadership and technical roles across the organisation.
Representation in senior positions has also expanded. Women now hold about 15% of senior roles within the company’s GCC operations, nearly double the 8% recorded in 2020. The company said this progress stands out in the region’s wider corporate landscape, where women hold only about 6.8% of board seats across many listed companies.
The company has reached a major milestone by increasing the participation of national women employees. Their share grew from 9% in 2020 to 51% in 2025. This change reflects wider regional efforts to support women in the private sector.
Campbell Gray said the company views diversity as a core business priority rather than a long-term aspiration. He noted that diverse teams can deliver stronger solutions for clients and support sustainable growth in the region.
Naomi Miles said creating an inclusive workplace remains central to the company’s regional strategy.
With more than 4,000 employees in the GCC, AtkinsRéalis plans to introduce new regional inclusion targets, expand leadership development programmes for women, and strengthen gender equity measures to maintain progress across its operations.
