Key Background
In an effort to enlighten regulatory consciousness and business compliance among women entrepreneurs, the Nagaland Women Entrepreneurs Network (WENN) organized a series of workshops in three districts—Dimapur, Niuland, and Peren—on July 10, 12, and 14, 2025, respectively. The workshops are part of WENN’s ongoing endeavor to empower women-owned business with pragmatic knowledge on legal process, compliance process, and financial framework.
Funded by Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), the workshops were designed to de-mystify compliance steps and encourage formalisation of business among women entrepreneurs within the ecosystem. The workshops were on key areas of compliance such as registration of trade license, Udyam registration, FSSAI license, and financial literacy. The participants were also made aware of different government schemes of assistance of the centre and state for micro and small enterprises.
Trainers comprised professionals from the District Industries Centre (DIC) and local experienced entrepreneurs who brought hands-on experiences, best practices, and advice to the table. The live session provided the audience with a forum where they could ask questions, present problems, and brainstorm ideas collectively, thereby fostering high levels of peer interaction and learning community.
These kinds of workshops are part of the bigger WENN campaign with the campaign slogan of “Year of Business Governance” that began in 2024 and has been taken to different districts of Nagaland. Earlier sessions for districts such as Zunheboto and Chümoukedima have already empowered thousands of women by helping them better realize business formalities, documentation, and rules of compliance.
By facilitating Nagaland’s women entrepreneurs‘ access to organized labor compliance data, WENN is opening the way for them towards having the potential to establish strong, legally compliant, and growth-oriented businesses. The effort not only contributes to the empowerment of the citizens but also to the region’s socio-economic development.
