Background :
More than 100 members and guests of Zonta International gathered in Seoul in the third week of May to discuss ways to strengthen advocacy, education and leadership programs for women and girls across South Korea.
Zonta International’s District 32, Area 1 held its 2026 conference and general meeting at the Grand Mercure Imperial Palace Seoul Gangnam. Members from clubs in Seoul and other parts of the country attended the event, which covered the group’s activities over the past year and set priorities for the year ahead.
The programme included an opening ceremony, a special lecture, club reports, a financial review and a general meeting.
Area 1 Chair and Urban Garden CEO Han Sun-ah said Zonta’s values of care, solidarity and service have grown more important as the world faces political, economic and social uncertainty, and that the organisation’s mission to build a better world for women and girls remains as relevant as ever.
Herald Media Group publisher and CEO Choi Jin-young said Zonta has served as a source of hope for women worldwide for more than a century and that the conference would strengthen solidarity among members working to uplift marginalised communities and advance women’s leadership.
District 32 Governor Na Hyo-sook called on members to explore a new vision for expanding service, scholarship, advocacy and education programs.
The event also drew remarks from two senior figures. Lee Young-ja, 96, a former Area 1 chair, and Kim Kyung-oh, Korea’s first female aviator and honorary governor of Zonta Korea, shared their experiences as longtime members.
